With this being the 41st season that our family has been operating
Indian Trail resort, we are proud to state that 2007 was the finest
walleye year we have ever seen.
Without a doubt we witnessed our guests catch more walleye, greater
numbers of big walleye, and more consistent walleye fishing
throughout the season than during any year we have ever seen.
May is always considered a prime walleye month and
2007 was no exception. But what impressed us -
and our guests as well - was that great walleye
fishing continued all through June and July as well.
Pictured are just some of 2007's great spring walleye catches that
our guests made last season.
By and large last spring, the primary method that was most
consistent for catching walleye which commonly ranged from 15 to 23
inches was to cast the shallow weedy areas (cabbage weeds
especially) that had deeper water nearby with beetle spins, mimic
minnows (you can get those at Wal-Mart), and rapalas.
This approach was not only very productive early in the morning, but
it also produced well into late morning, all through the day when
the weather would give us some cloud cover, and again starting
around 7 pm and going strong until dark.
Other good structures were shorelines with stumps and wood and other
areas that had wood in 7 to 12 feet of water. Years ago, the Flowage
seemed loaded with 12 inch class walleye and catching 16 plus inch
fish seemed difficult at times.
However, those tens of thousands of
little walleye must have grown up because we have never seen such an
impressive size class of walleye being caught as we have been
producing during the last several seasons... with 2007 being the all
time best year in recent memory!
We encourage you to make your May, 2008 reservation
early. With the Walleye fishing the best it has been
in recent memory, you are sure to have some great
Spring Walleye action.
